Shannon Ouellette, MAN, RD, Acting Public Health Nutritionist with the Perth District Health Unit (ON) developed a presentation related to Ontario's Bill 8 regarding trans fat in schools. It is attached below. The presentation was developed to support implementation of Bill 8. A related presentation was also developed by the Niagara Region Public Health Department and is attached below.



The Dietitians of Canada developed School Food and Nutrition Recommendations for the Ontario Ministry of Education Regarding Snacks and Beverages Dispensed by Vending Machines which accompanied this Policy and Program Memorandum.

The Ontario Ministry of Education’s Healthy Schools plan includes policy direction on daily physical activity, healthy foods and beverages in elementary school vending machines, anaphylaxis, Community Use of Schools, swimming survival programs, health and physical education curriculum and a high school cardiopulmonary resuscitation program. The ministry has also published its regulations on school food sales. entitled: Healthy Foods and Beverages in Elementary School Vending Machines Policy/Program Memorandum.

The Ontario Resource Centre on Nutrition has published materials in its Eat Smart program for healthy school cafeterias. Find out how your school can become an Eat Smart School.

In 2004, The Ontario Society of Nutrition Professionals in Public Health releasedCall to Action:
Creating a Healthy School Nutrition Environment
which included recommendations related to the importance of healthy eating in the school context .

The Manitoba ‘Taking Action for Healthy Food in Schools’ Student Leadership Award is designed to encourage youth to take leadership action on promoting healthy eating in schools and improving school food environments.
